About
Huws Gray is the UK’s largest independent builders’ merchant, proudly serving both trade and retail customers across England, Wales, and Scotland. Founded in 1990 on Anglesey, North Wales, the business began with a single branch and a simple vision — to provide builders and homeowners with quality building materials, fair prices, and exceptional service. Over three decades later, Huws Gray has grown into a nationwide network of more than 250 branches, supported by a team of over 5,500 people and a reputation built on trust, expertise, and community spirit.
From its origins as a local family business, Huws Gray has maintained the same hands-on values that defined its early success. Every branch remains closely connected to its local community, staffed by knowledgeable professionals who understand the needs of their customers. This local-first approach, combined with the scale and infrastructure of a national organisation, gives Huws Gray a distinctive advantage — the ability to offer both personal service and powerful capability.
The company’s product range is one of the most comprehensive in the sector, spanning everything from heavy building materials, timber, and sheet products to roofing, insulation, landscaping, drainage, kitchens, bathrooms, and decorating supplies. Its diverse catalogue supports contractors, self-builders, and DIY customers alike, ensuring reliable access to high-quality materials from trusted brands.
Huws Gray’s ongoing investment in digital transformation, logistics, and sustainable practices demonstrates its forward-looking vision. The company continues to expand responsibly, adopting technologies that enhance efficiency and customer experience while maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and local communities. From its distribution hubs and delivery fleets to its branch network and digital platforms, every part of Huws Gray’s operation is designed around service excellence and reliability.
Today, Huws Gray stands as a market leader not only for its size but also for its commitment to quality, consistency, and customer satisfaction. Its combination of national strength and local service makes it one of the most trusted and respected names in the UK builders’ merchant industry — a brand synonymous with dependability, value, and partnership.
A Forward-thinking Agency for a Fast-growing Business
In their ambition to elevate digital capabilities and deliver an exceptional online experience, Huws Gray selected iWeb as their strategic digital partner. With deep expertise in Adobe Commerce (Powered by Magento) and a track record of supporting large-scale merchants, iWeb was uniquely placed to lead the transformation.
Our collaboration with Huws Gray encompassed the design, development and deployment of a highly scalable e-commerce platform. This platform needed to support complex trade workflows, multi-site branch operations, live stock and pricing visibility, and seamless integration with back-office systems.
By working closely with Huws Gray’s in-house teams, we aligned the digital solution with Huws Gray’s strategic growth ambitions: to support trade and retail customers more effectively, enable operational efficiency in branch and online channels, and build a foundation for future innovation.
The Customer Experience (Cx)
Huws Gray’s customer experience is rooted in knowledge, service and convenience — and our mission was to replicate that in the digital space. The new Adobe Commerce platform delivers a seamless, intuitive experience across devices, enabling customers to browse extensive product ranges, check live stock availability across branches, and place orders for delivery or collection.
For trade customers, the platform offers personalised pricing, quick reorder functionality, credit account management and tools tailored for contractors and site-based professionals. Retail customers enjoy clear product information, relevant recommendations and a clean, efficient checkout process.
We emphasised performance, clarity and usability — ensuring Huws Gray’s trusted branch-level service is reflected in a modern, high-performing online presence that supports both trade and retail audiences with equal strength.
“Working with iWeb has been a game-changer for us. They understood the scale and complexity of our business from day one and delivered a platform that aligns with our ambition to serve trade and retail customers seamlessly. The feedback from our branches and customers has been fantastic — it’s set us up for that next level of growth.”
